Where to stay in Giverny comes down to three bases: the village itself, Vernon
across the Seine, or Paris. The village puts you at the gate at opening time. Vernon has the
station. Paris has the tours, and most Giverny booking start there.
Giverny, Vernon or Paris: the three bases compared
Choose by how you want to arrive at the gate, not by the room alone. The table sets each base
against the way you reach the gardens.
Base
How you reach the gardens
What is there
It suits
Giverny village
On foot
A hotel-restaurant, rooms in village houses and self-catering cottages
Walking in at 10 am; a quiet evening on the street
Vernon
Shuttle from the station, or 5 km by bike or on foot
The station, the tourist office, bike hire, a town museum
Train travellers with no car
Paris
A tour from your hotel or a meeting point; or the train from Saint-Lazare
Nearly every tour's start
A day trip, with Paris for the rest of your stay
A cruise ship at Le Havre
A private shore day from the port
Your cabin
Cruise passengers with one day ashore
If you have one day, stay in Paris and take a tour. If you have two, sleep in the village or
in Vernon and see the gardens first thing.
Sleeping in the village
Few beds sit in Giverny itself, and they fill in the season. Le Jardin des Plumes is a
hotel-restaurant in a 1913 house in its own park, with rooms and suites. Its chef, David
Gallienne, runs the kitchen. Nearby, Ô Plum’ART lets six rooms in a house with blue
shutters.
The tourist office in Vernon lists more: cottages and rooms in and around the village. Search
its list for Giverny, and book as soon as you have your date.
The long pink house with green shutters behind beds of tulips
A night here gives you what no tour can: the street before the coaches, and the evening
after the gates shut. Be at the gate for the 10 am opening. Dine at the Ancien Hôtel Baudy, which
serves until last orders at 9 pm on its evening service. Its own page lists the days.
Vernon, by the station
Vernon is the town across the Seine, with the station for trains from Paris Saint-Lazare,
Rouen and Le Havre. The tourist office is at 36 rue Carnot. It lists places to stay in and
around Vernon, one of them a cottage near the station.
From Vernon you reach the gardens by the seasonal shuttle, €5 each way, or along the 5 km
cycle path. Givernon hires bikes at the station exit. Check the shuttle timetable at the station
for the last run back.
Vernon suits you if you come by train and want a town round you in the evening. It has its own
museum with a round Water Lilies by Monet, and its old mill on the river.
Staying in Paris and taking a tour
If Giverny is one day of a Paris trip, stay put. The coach days meet at Porte Maillot, the
small-group minivans on avenue de Wagram or at your hotel in western Paris. Every private day
collects you at your Paris hotel.
A hotel in the west of Paris puts you near most meeting points. Before you book, check that
the tour you want picks up in your district: some pickups leave out parts of the city.
Staying in Paris?
Compare the Giverny tours that collect you at your hotel, and the ones that meet at a café or a square.
If you arrive by sea, your ship is your hotel. A private shore day collects you at the Le Havre
cruise port and has you back before sailing. It gives you about an hour at Monet’s house
and gardens, with Honfleur or Rouen as your second stop.
The gardens open only from 1 April to 1 November. Check your port date falls inside the season
before you book.
Questions about where to stay
Should I stay in Giverny or Paris?
Stay in Paris if you have one day for Giverny: the tours pick up there. Stay in the village if you want the gardens at opening time and the street to yourself in the evening.
Are there hotels in Giverny?
A few. Le Jardin des Plumes is a hotel-restaurant in the village, and the tourist office lists rooms and cottages in and around it. Book early for the season.
Is Vernon a good base for Giverny?
Yes, if you come by train. Vernon has the station, the tourist office and bike hire, and the shuttle and the cycle path take you the 5 km to the gardens.
Do any tours pick me up at my hotel?
Every private day picks up at your Paris hotel, and some small-group minivans do too. The coaches meet at Porte Maillot, and most minivans at a café near the Arc de Triomphe or in the 17th arrondissement.
Is there a Giverny tour from Le Havre?
Yes: a private shore day from the cruise port, which lets you choose two of Giverny, Rouen and Honfleur. It promises to have you back before the ship sails, and it needs six days' notice to cancel.
Where these facts come from
The hotel and rooms are described from their own site, and the other places to stay from the
tourist office’s list, checked 28 September 2026. We name only what those sources name. Meeting points come
from each tour’s own listing.
Already in Giverny? A private guide meets you next to the car park by the house for two hours inside and out, entrance tickets paid. No transport is included.
Five to seven hours with pickup and drop-off at your Paris hotel, an air-conditioned car, bottled water, and the entrance to the house and gardens paid.
A private car from your Paris hotel for up to three: two hours at Monet's house and gardens, then a stop in a second village on the Seine on the way back.
