Check AvailabilityWhere to eat in Giverny matters, because you cannot picnic in the gardens. The village street has a restaurant opposite the gate, the painters’ old inn and the museum’s own. A few of the Giverny bike tour and Versailles days put lunch in the fare.
Every table here is on or near rue Claude Monet, so you can walk to lunch from the gate. Book at weekends in the season.
| Where | Address | When | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Les Nymphéas | Opposite the house | Every day, 1 April-1 November | The nearest table to the gate |
| Ancien Hôtel Baudy | 81 rue Claude Monet | Lunch Tuesday to Sunday; evening service on some days | Set menu €38 or à la carte; closed Mondays |
| Oscar | At the impressionism museum, 99 rue Claude Monet | Hours on its own site | The museum's restaurant |
| Le Jardin des Plumes | In the village | Book ahead | A chef's restaurant in a hotel |
| A picnic | Outside the gardens only | Any time | Not allowed inside the gardens |
Remember that any exit from the gardens is final. Eat before you go in, or after you have seen everything.
The Fondation does not allow picnics inside the house and gardens. It checks bags at the entrance and has no luggage storage. Only cabin-size bags, up to 55 x 35 x 20 cm, may go in.
A bottle of water in your bag is fine. A picnic has to wait for the riverbank or a bench outside the gates.
Les Nymphéas faces Monet’s house across the street. It opens every day of the gardens’ season, 1 April to 1 November. It is the closest table to the gate, which makes it the easy choice before or after your visit.
Groups book by email; the Fondation gives the address on its own page. The restaurant keeps the gardens’ season, so it is shut from 2 November.
The Hôtel Baudy was the heart of Giverny’s artist colony. From 1886 it fed and housed American and French painters. Monet came to talk with his friend Clemenceau.
Today the Ancien Hôtel Baudy is a restaurant at 81 rue Claude Monet. It serves French cooking, with a set menu at €38 or dishes à la carte. Madame Baudy’s omelette is still on the menu. Eat in the old dining room or on the shaded terrace.

It opens for lunch from 11.30 am, Tuesday to Sunday, and has an evening service on some days, last orders 9 pm. It closes on Sunday evening and all day Monday. Its winter closure runs from 1 November 2026 to 31 March.
Oscar is the restaurant of the Musée des impressionnismes, at 99 rue Claude Monet. Its hours are on its own site. Pair it with the museum on a day you give to the village.
Le Jardin des Plumes is a hotel-restaurant in the village, in a house built in 1913. Its chef, David Gallienne, cooks from Normandy produce. It is the place for a long dinner if you sleep in Giverny; book ahead.
Most half-day tours from Paris leave lunch to you. You eat in the village during free time, or back in Paris.
A few longer days include it. One small-group day to Giverny and Versailles lunches with drinks at the Moulin de Fourges. A private Versailles day puts lunch in the fare. The bike day stops at a market for picnic food, then you eat on the riverbank of the Seine before the ride.
Compare the Giverny days that put lunch in the fare, and the half-days that leave it to you.
The picnic rule and Les Nymphéas are the Fondation’s own, and each restaurant’s menu and hours are its own or the tourist office’s, checked 28 September 2026. What each tour includes comes from its own listing.
