★★★★★
The coach half day from Porte Maillot
The commentary on the coach set the scene on the way out, and Giverny was as busy as expected.
Tracy F. · September 2026
What travellers wrote after a coach half day from Porte Maillot, a minivan of eight with a guide in the gardens, a private day with an art historian, or a long day that added Versailles or Van Gogh. Comparing Giverny guided tours? The operators’ own ratings and fares sit side by side below.
These are travellers’ own accounts, each tagged with the tour it belongs to and grouped by what else filled the day. Most are five stars, but the low scores are here too: a driver who stayed in the car, a van where your stop came last, a coach toilet nobody wanted, a guide who said little on the way out.

The coach half day from Porte Maillot
Anyone who loves plants will enjoy it. Monet's story was interesting, but the house and its gardens made the day.
Brian M. · September 2026
★★★★★
The coach half day from Porte Maillot
A beautiful day for the house and gardens, though you would want more time to take in the museum as well.
Anna M. · September 2026
★★★★☆
The coach half day from Porte Maillot
A good overview of where Monet lived and a very comfortable coach, but not enough time to take everything in. Being free to choose where to go was a plus.
Cecilia F. · September 2026
★★★☆☆
The coach half day from Porte Maillot
The toilet on the coach smelled so bad on the way back that many moved upstairs to get away from it.

★★★★★
The small-group half day from avenue de Wagram
The gardens were even more special in person than in the pictures, and the guide was knowledgeable, friendly and kept the visit relaxed.
Marlene G. · September 2026
★★★★★
The small-group half day from avenue de Wagram
A small group in a minivan made the trip quick and easy, and the gardens in the afternoon light were lovely.

★★★★★
The small-group half day from avenue de Wagram
Take the early departure and you are back in Paris with the afternoon free.

★★★★★
The small-group half day from avenue de Wagram
Just enough information, and a guide who worked around the crowds on a very busy day.
Ronald Z. · September 2026
★★★☆☆
The small-group half day from avenue de Wagram
Little from the guide, and the group was on its own through the house and gardens. Worse, the driving was far too fast.
MaryJanelle M. · September 2026
★★☆☆☆
The small-group half day from avenue de Wagram
A single traveller at a 7:45 am start, left waiting while two full vans of couples went first. Not for odd-numbered parties.
Kenneth W. · September 2026
★★★★★
The private day with an art historian
Getting past the queue was worth it on a weekend morning, with a first-rate guide.
June B. · April 2026
★★★★★
The private day with an art historian
A relaxed day with plenty of time, and a guide who knew Monet's work in depth.
Carole M. · September 2026
★★★★★
The private day with an art historian
A small party suits the tight spaces of the house and gardens, and the guide answered every question with good humour.
Joseph S. · October 2025
★★★★☆
The private day with an art historian
A lovely afternoon in the first week of October, though earlier in the season is probably better.
Nancy D. · October 2025
★★★☆☆
The private day with an art historian
Expected a guided visit, but the driver-guide did not come round the gardens: some facts in the car and a few minutes on site. Transport alone would have cost less.
Rosanna M. · April 2025
★★★★★
The Giverny half day by minibus
A long-held wish to see the gardens, with plenty of time there and a stop at Monet's grave afterwards.
Kallie · New Zealand · September 2026
★★★★★
The Giverny half day by minibus
Only four in the minivan, a funny guide, and a lesson in French driving on the way round the Arc de Triomphe.
Bruce · Australia · August 2026
★★★★★
The private half day from Paris
Prompt and knowledgeable, eased through the gardens to the best spots for photographs, with time left for breakfast by the Seine.

The small-group day with hotel pickup
Expensive, but Giverny is a long way from Paris and this takes the time and the fuss out of it.
Mark L. · September 2026
★☆☆☆☆
The small-group day with hotel pickup
Sold as a guided tour, but the friendly driver had never been and was told to wait in the car. Nobody knew where to go.

The minivan of eight, gardens on your own
A family of three with a teenager, and a favourite of their Paris stay. Take the morning tour to beat the crowds.
Susan G. · July 2026
★★★★☆
The minivan of eight, gardens on your own
A good introduction on the way, the pond well worth it, but the house underwhelming, and they did not need the full two hours.
Becky S. · June 2026
★★☆☆☆
The minivan of eight, gardens on your own
Giverny itself is a must, but the van was full and their stop came last on the pickup round, which undid the point of paying more.
Lawrence M. · September 2026

The private walk through the house and gardens
Very crowded with school trips, so go as early as you can. A pleasant guide, but hard to hear.

The bike day with a picnic
A fun day, but the ride is only a small part of it. Giverny was busy, so choose another tour if you want a guide inside or fewer people.
Linda F. · June 2025

Vernon, the market and the picnic by the river were the surprise of the day.

The Giverny and Versailles coach day
A longer day than expected, and a lovely one: the guided palace tour, then free time in the Versailles gardens and in Giverny.
Janelle · Canada · September 2026
★★★★★
The Giverny and Versailles coach day
Would have preferred a live guide in Giverny: the audio app was fiddly to download and connect. The garden itself was wonderful.
Karrie · United States · September 2026
★★★★★
The Giverny and Versailles coach day
A long day, out at 8:30 am and back about 7:30 pm, with a lot of walking. Worth it for both the palace and the gardens.
Elizabeth Z. · August 2026
★★★★☆
The Giverny and Versailles coach day
Would cut half an hour or more from the Versailles gardens to have longer in Giverny, and the talk on the coach left little room for a nap.
Sira D. · August 2026

★★★☆☆
The Giverny and Versailles day with lunch
Both places were superb, but the guide said very little on the drive to Giverny beyond the logistics.
Ave G. · June 2026

The private Versailles and Giverny day
A good driver who knew who to ask to make things easier for reduced mobility, and who left time for photographs in the garden.

The private Versailles and Giverny day

The Versailles timed ticket and Giverny day
In Giverny, head for the house first, then the pond, because the house queue builds fast. Save the guide's number for Versailles.

The private Versailles and Giverny day with lunch
A private guide and car were good to have, but lunch was poor and the pickup messages could have been clearer.

The private Giverny and Auvers day
Arriving early at the gardens and the house, before the crowds, made the day. It paired well with Monet's paintings in the Paris museums afterwards.

The small-group Monet and Van Gogh day
Only three on the day: a walk through the village to the church and the grave, the gardens, then Auvers.
Benett · United States · August 2026
The advice comes up again and again. Travellers who were at the gate for the 10 am opening had the pond almost to themselves, and the queue for the house builds quickly, so they went in there first.
The warmest reviews are about a guide who walked the paths with the group. The disappointed ones booked a guided day and found the guide waiting in the car, or an app in place of a person. Every card here says which.
On the coach half day several travellers wished for longer. On the long days that add Versailles, some would trade time in the palace gardens for more time in Giverny.
School trips in June, busy weekends all season: the gardens are crowded in the middle of the day. Small groups and private guides help you move around the crowd, not away from it.
What stands where, from the flower garden to the water garden and the Clos Normand’s arches, is set out in Monet’s house and gardens, part by part.

A tour with thousands of reviews and one with a handful are not a verdict on each other. The gap is mostly how many people each carries: a coach fills most days, a private car takes one party. Every price here is per person, and a few need at least two travellers on the booking.
